It’s an amazing thought but 40 years ago, in 1978, Mike Richards & Philip Pell teamed up with Jim Grant to put on the first Duane Eddy Circle Convention!! The concept of a Convention organised by a fan club was a very novel one back when the Circle presented its early Conventions, and the first couple of Conventions gained very pleasing media coverage in the UK.
The first Convention, at The Clarendon Court Hotel, was an amazing event, the second Convention was held at the Cora Hotel in Euston. Then it was the turn of the world-famous Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in Soho. Then there was a long residency at The International Students House in London. After a year at The Oval we “moved on” to Tutu’s, at King’s College London and now at the Polish Club in Amersham.
So what do we have in store for you at Convention 2018?? Top billing goes to "The Twang Gang", including we hope, a special appearance by the Twang Gang Girls – there will also be an acoustic set to look forward to earlier in the afternoon featuring Philip & Spence. As ever, we’ll have sales tables and our ever-popular raffle icluding some specially-autographed items.and possibly a MasterMind quiz.
Duane has had a pretty hectic year since Convention ‘17, so there’s loads of new material, including Duane appearing live with Dan Auerbach on KING OF A ONE HORSE TOWN, together with highlights from Duane’s other collaborations with the folks at Easy Eye. There’s the launch of the new 6-string bass guitar, with Duane playing snippets from his hits & tracks he has never recorded and much more.
We have shown loads of video clips of Duane over the years so if there was one clip you would especially like to see again, what would that be?? Let us know & we’ll try to accommodate. Full details of the programme will be in the May issue of Twangsville.
