Looks like Convention 2009  is going to be a memorable one!!  Hot from the US, we will bring you the first UK showing of Duane’s knock-out performance from the MARTY STUART SHOW.   Add in Duane’s contribution to the new DVD STARS AND THEIR GUITARS and already things are looking good!!  And don’t forget that we have a year of twang to cover, from Duane’s TV interview prior to the Les Paul Birthday Bash, to the momentous version of PETER GUNN from the 50th Anniversary of Rock’n’Roll at the Hollywood Bowl with B.B. King & Sir James Galway  - Jim has done a great job cleaning up the sound for this as it was recorded with a hand-held Mike Richards (sorry that should read “a hand-held mic”) way back in the depths of the arena; so hang on to your hats for a great afternoon filled with Twang.   And going back further in time, watch out for a brilliant performance from Deed from the 1975 “MusikLaden Special” on SON OF A GUITAR MAN, and some great pickin’ from Duane (and some great camera angles) on 3.30 BLUES from the same show – just about the best TV number I’ve ever seen by Duane & one that I hope you will remember for years to come.  Then it is bang up-to-date again with the Steve & Jonnie interviews and Duane’s interview from the Hall of Fame & Museum.  And remember also to collect your free CD-R of A DUANE EDDY CHRISTMAS that contains all five of the Christmas tracks that Duane has posted on the internet over the past few years in one convenient package (as the TV ad says).

As well as the items for the Circle Raffle & Mastermind that I mentioned in the previous issue (these include an autograph & photo of Duane ready for framing, a DJ copy of RENEGADE and coloured-vinyl albums from the German Line label), I’m delighted to be able to add in to the raffle prizes a programme from Duane’s legendary 1967 concert with Bill Haley from the Albert Hall in London – many, many thanks to John Harrison for donating this piece of memorabilia to raise funds for the Circle!!

Now what have I forgotten – the video, the quiz, the Mastermind, Malcolm manning the Circle Shop – I’m sure there is something else??   Oh yes, the Twang Gang!!  Yep, all our friends (sorry I’m not going to use the word “old”) will be back on stage, romping their way through a great set of Duane’s recordings, mixing as always the massive hits with album tracks that maybe even Duane himself has never had the chance to play live on stage; and I’m delighted to say that the Twang Gang will be joined again this year by Don Gould, all the way from LA – next issue, I’ll include a potted history of Don’s career in music – it makes great reading – so “hey everybody, come along if you can....”
